The Canadian Labour Economics Forum (CLEF) is, once again, running its competition for the best paper written by a Canadian student or recent graduate. The aim of the competition is to recognize and support excellence in early career research and to connect with young labour economists.
Current students or recent graduates (within past two years) from a Canadian university, as well as Canadian students and recent graduates from foreign universities, are eligible to participate. Submissions must be unpublished. Papers may be written in English or French. Sole-authored papers and papers co-authored with another student or recent graduate (not a supervisor or senior economist) are eligible.
Papers will be reviewed by CLEF’s Scientific Committee. The Committee will select one paper as the winner and two runner-up papers. The winner and runner-ups will receive prizes of $1,000 and $250, respectively. They will also be expected to present their work in a special CLEF session held during the 2024 Annual Meetings of the Canadian Economic Association on Friday May 31 in Toronto. The winner and runner-ups will also be invited to join our 2024 Keynote Speaker, Professor Philip Oreopoulos, for a private dinner during the CEA Meetings.
The submission deadline is February 15, 2024. Send your paper as an attachment to clef@uwaterloo.ca and include “Prize” in the subject line.
Everyone submitting papers to this competition is asked to also submit their abstract to the CEA general call for papers (deadline is also February 15). The CEA portal for submissions is here. When submitting to the CEA Conference, please add “This abstract has also been submitted to the CLEF Young Researcher Award competition” to the comment field.
