Every year, Canadian Labour Economics Forum (CLEF) runs its competition for the best paper written by a Canadian student or recent graduate. The aim of the competition is to recognize and support excellence in early career research and to connect with young labour economists.
Current students at Canadian universities or recent graduates (within two years of completing your Ph.D.), as well as Canadian citizens who are current students or recent graduates at a foreign university, are eligible to participate. Submissions are invited on topics in labour economics, broadly defined. Papers on the Canadian economy are especially encouraged. They should be unpublished and may be written in English or French. Papers should represent completed research (e.g., job market papers, other dissertation chapters, other completed research papers). They can be sole-authored or co-authored with another student or recent graduate (not a supervisor or more senior economist).
The call for submissions for the 2027 competition will be released in October 2026. Stay tuned!
